GROUP CLASSES | STUDY CHINESE IN TAIWAN

Our small group courses in Taiwan centre around the fact everyone gets their chance to speak. Average class sizes are less than three people and will never exceed six people. This is vital when getting the chance to speak and get your mouth moving, which is essential when learning Chinese.

Every lesson at LTL lasts 55 minutes and you can sign up for anything between one week and one year so there is huge room for flexibility!

Spoken Mandarin is the main module of Chinese you will learn but reading and writing also plays a prominent role.

They will go hand in hand as you learn Chinese further down the line.

If you have already studied Mandarin, you can start courses on any Monday of the year, otherwise if you are a complete beginner, we have a set list of starting dates shown below. You can discuss this with our director of studies and student advisors.

If you’d prefer quicker Chinese progress it’s worth checking out our Individual Chinese Language Courses in Taiwan also.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I learn Simplified Chinese?

All our group classes teaches Traditional Mandarin. If you wish to learn Simplified Mandarin our 1-on-1 classes are the right course for you.

How do you decide who to group me with?

Regarding students – It’s all about current Chinese level and to do this we have a chat with you before you come to China to assess your level.

This is a just a few questions to gauge exactly where you are with your Chinese to date.

Obviously, if you are a beginner there is no need to do this and we group you with fellow beginners. If your level is a little higher, we generally recommend you take our individual Chinese classes in Taiwan because the lessons become much more tailored at this stage.

Regards teachers – This is also important. We match who we believe to be the best teacher to you based on your Chinese goals and the teachers strengths.

This varies with different people and different teachers.

All in all, we are sure you will be more than happy with your Chinese group and teacher(s).

Do you teach both reading and writing?

We do indeed.

Although the main focus is on Chinese speaking, there is also space to learn reading Chinese characters and how to construct them.

Generally we split this into 70% speaking and 30% reading and writing Chinese.

Can I also study Online?

You can indeed, whether it be before coming to Taiwan, after returning home, or indeed instead of coming to Taiwan.

We offer online Mandarin courses for all levels, in either small groups or individually.

What is the general class schedule?

It varies with each class but the majority will start at 10am and finish at 3pm.

The break for lunch is at 12pm and lasts for one hour. This gives you a two hour on-one hour off split.

You also take a small break after each hour. If you wish to top up your group class lessons with individual lessons in Taiwan, these will take place before (roughly 8am), or after (3pm).

Can I change classes?

Subject to class availability you can yes. Speak to our student advisors at our school in Taiwan and we will assist and advise you.

What can I eat for lunch?

Taipei and Taiwan have a whole wealth of great food options and we are lucky that in and around the school there are a number of food options at cheap prices to suit all tastes.

If you have any food requirements, for example, you are coming to Asia as a vegetarian, please ask us and we will always be happy to help you out!

How much can I realistically learn at LTL?

A question like this is really so dependant on the individual.

If you are willing to immerse yourself into the culture, the sky is the limit. Living with a family in Taiwan is another great way to enhance your Chinese because actually the majority of your learning won’t come inside the classroom, it’ll be defined outside.

You just apply what you learned in the classroom, make friends in Taiwan, chat to people, be confident and be willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

Therefore, the speed at which you learn Chinese is really down to you but we give you the best platform possible to learn Mandarin in China.

With the groups I was learning Chinese really quickly. Speaking and listening was my biggest problem, but I got around it. The activities were fun, such as calligraphy. We'd be telling stories about stuff we drew.
